Proud to announce that Australian powerhouse, Boyd Hilder is now on Volume. Boyd is one of the more diverse riders we know, and has been killing it for years. After our Australian VLM/ Demo Sydney trip where he murdered every spot he rode, we had do whatever we could to get him on. Big thanks to Terry at BMX Militia Distribution for all the help on making it happen. Be on the lookout for some more Volume/ Boyd content shortly. In the meantime, check out this mini interview, welcome video, and bike check. Video by: Dave Pendleton. Photos by: Joel Erwin
I know the Volume/ Demolition Sydney trip was kinda the turning point for you to get on Volume, what do you think the real catalyst to join was?
It just seemed right, I was already good mates with the AUS team with Jacman and Lewis. Then having Demolition as a sponsor for a few years before I’d already made a good relationship with Terry from the Australian distro, and you guys in America at 180 Dist. Going on that trip just made me realize that’s where I’m meant to be.
Who were your favorites to watch growing up riding, and who are your favorites now?
While growing up I loved to watch Kris Fox purely because he was a racer and a park rider and I could relate as I was juggling between them both myself. I also looked up to Dennis Enarson, and Kriss Kyle a lot, and I still do so a lot these days.
We’ve seen you pretty much kill everything from dirt, street, to park. What do you like to ride most and why?
At the moment I’m really into riding street. The challenges of finding the spot, riding it without getting busted, and landing the tricks on a not so perfect spot gets me that much more stoked when I’m rolling away.
There’s so many incredible park riders out of Australia, what do you think that comes from, the parks, the rider camaraderie or something else?
I think it’s a mix of there being loads of parks to choose from, and pros in the area that the kids get to look up too.
You work at the Village skatepark and shop in Brisbane, can you tell us a little about the place and what you do there?
The Village is awesome! To me its the best indoor park in the area and its a sweet hangout spot for the locals. Its either me or Chris Courtenay (owner) there behind the counter so there’s no annoying old dude to bum you out when you come ride. Being the only other worker than Chris I do a bit of everything, from cleaning, build the bikes, and box and unbox any orders.

Seems like you’re always up to something and working on projects, or traveling. Can you tell us what you have planned this year or what’s in the works?
Planning on a few Aussie trips throughout the year with my homies, and the Volume Aus crew. Mid year I’ll be spending a few months in the states to get on road trips with US Volume team and hit a few events over there. Possibly even a trip to China at the end of the year if all goes to plan.
Music that gets you stoked?
I mostly listen to rap music like Mac Miller and Joey Badass but if I’m getting pumped up to do something big I’ll throw on some Black Sabbath.
What do you look for out of a bike the most; specs, weight, color, durability?
Mainly specs, me being super tall I like to keep my bike fairly big but still responsive, so I’ll go for the longer top tube with a steeper head tube, and the shorter back end.
Thanks man, anything else you wanna add?
Shout out to mum and dad for always helping me out. Also I’d like to thank Terry and Brian for making all this happen. Stoked to be on such a rad company and can’t wait for good times!
