Always hate when photos get put aside to use for bigger projects (other than the web) then get put on the back burner vortex. This is a classic case till I saw Joey (photographer that shot it) put it up on his Instagram. This shot of Broc was during our big Motocross Int Japan tour with the Demolition guys a few years back. Can’t believe that this spot is just chilling in a park too. So good! If you missed our Japan tour video the first time, check it out here>> Click photo to go big!
Akira not only has one of the smoothest styles in Japan, he also has his moves on lock. Akira run his own shop, BMX Flourish, has a family and kills it still in the streets still. He just dropped his latest edit and is still smooth as silk. Filmed by: Kouki Motomura, Hiroaki Goto, Hirotsugu Yamashita, Genki Higuchi, & Junichi Ishikawa
Our Japanese rider, Akira Sakata, just sent over this new edit of the Flourish crew shredding Oyama Skate Park. In case you missed it a couple months ago, check out the Volume & Demolition in Japan video, which shows the crew make a stop at Akira’s shop, Flourish BMX Shop.
Last month we went to Japan with some Demolition dudes & the help of Motocross International Distribution. We got to visit a ton of awesome shops, some amazing skateparks & street quareterpipes, and of course filmed some clips along the way for you to enjoy. Check out Broc and Raban killing it along with the likes of Dennis Enarson, Tyler Fernengel, Kris Fox, & Connor Lodes. Big thanks again to Motocross International for making this trip a reality, and for taking such good care of us during our stay over there.
She’s a wrap. Here’s the last couple days of our distro trip overseas in which we visit our last bike shop, do some sight-seeing, pet a turtle, rode a skatepark, gave away some frames, signed some iPhones, and rode some trails before we got on the plane. Thanks again to Motocross International for making this trip a success. CLICK TO EXPAND GALLERY. All photos by Joey Cobbs.
We’re settling quite nicely into Japanese life over here. Little things like purchasing a coffee and scratching our heads over currency have become almost second nature in only a few days…funny how that works. Day 7 we got to sleep in for the first time in a while which was nice, then we headed to this awesome indoor mini ramp around noon and sessioned with this local shredder kid on his 18 inch. Everyone was real hyped on just a big ol mini ramp with tons of deck space. It’s always cool getting to see Broc killing tranny too. Anyone who knows me knows that you’ll never find me at the skatepark when I’m home, so Broc riding a mini ramp is not something I get to see very often. From there the locals took us to this crazy sea wall thing which was basically a giant bank with a 9 foot very quarter on top of it. That shit was soooo crazy man. Later on in the night we pedaled over to Clan Bike Shop from the hotel while dippin thru traffic like a buncha dicks. It kinda felt like a much tamer version of riding thru New York City….except people were a little more confused and less trying to run you over. The shop stop was awesome & the rest of the night is a blurry iPhone photo history. Stay tuned for more from the rest of our trip over the next few days. CLICK IMAGE TO LAUNCH GALLERY. We’ve been a little scarce on the Wifi situation over here, but rest assured that we will (eventually) keep you up to date with what’s going on. SO, here’s day 4! Our last day in Tokyo and the first day we got to ride some street. After the requisite morning walk around our neighborhood in Hachioji, the day started out with a visit to probably one of the best skateparks in Japan. What could be bad about that?…almost everything. The park owners and staff had the most insane policy when it came to filming and photography. We were told initially that we could do both, but had to “be moving” on a bike or skateboard, and wear a helmet, and tape your bar ends, and etc. Everything was fine for like 5 minutes until I tried to film a clip long lens and they actually threatened to call the police, lol. Planet Skatepark, I have some choice words for you. Luckily there were some dope locals there who were down to take us around to some spots….and SPOTS they were! All within like a 3 mile radius we got to ride 3 of the most unique & amazing transition spots ever. With a crew like this one, the rest was history….I guess you’ll just have the wait for the video. Day friggin’ 3 ey? Yesterday had the crew (for the most part) feeling pretty back on a normal sleeping pattern after struggling with the jet lag the first couple nights. The first order of business was a quick stop by BMX RIO were we got to meet cool locals and obstruct bicycle commuter traffic on the sidewalk. After that we headed over to Flourish BMX, which is owned by our dude Akira Sakata. It was dope to get to meet him and see what his shop was all about. It’s a relatively new shop but the vibe is was super on point, plus with the skatepark right next-door the shop is bound to thrive & help the local scene grow. From the shop we headed over to said skatepark, sessioned with the locals, flimed some clips, and had a blast. What more could you ask for right?…maybe just some authentic Japanese ramen. Boom.
