Re-Up: Alex Platt’s Welcome to Volume Edit

Kevin | 03.5.15

With “The Finer Things” finally out, it’s just reminded me of how awesome of a team we have here at Volume. It’s something that’s really easy to forget while being in the office day in/day out.  So, I was going back checking out our rider’s past edits and came across Alex Platt’s “Welcome to Volume” edit from close to 2 years ago. Alex Platt’s section in “The Finer Things” is easily one of my personal favorite parts. Every time he started pedaling, I couldnt help but edge closer in my seat wondering if he was going head-on into a wall or destroying a rail hop or gnarly grind. Definitely reminded me of the good ol’ Jimmy Levan days. Alex is a machine, and this welcome edit was a good foreshadow of what we were all in store for almost 2 years later. Check it out!

RIDEbmx #207 Love

Brian | 03.4.15

bill-perry-ridebmx207
This photo by Nick Jones of Billy Perry reminds me of what riding is all about; cruising the streets with your buds and hitting random spots along the way. RIDEbmx did a rad feature with a bunch of guys (Billy was one) about “A Moment in BMX,” which covered what different riders were doing at the same time across the U.S.
There’s some other amazing photos of the Volume crew that also got a ton of love in this latest issue of RIDEbmx 207.  Be sure to check it out!

BMXUnion “Finer Things” Review

Kevin | 03.2.15

Mike-Mastroni-DIG-Finer-Things-Fives-DVD

BMX Union just posted the first official review we’ve seen of  “The Finer Things” video that just released two weeks ago. We’re stoked on their review, and in general, we’ve been blown away by the reception we’ve received from shops, industry folk, pro riders, customers, and social media. In house, we were excited with the end result, but to hear everyone, outside the office and team, saying such good things, and it getting people stoked to ride in new ways, we couldn’t be more proud. I’m sure more reviews are on the way in magazines and media sites, but go check out BMX Union’s review right now. If you haven’t, then head over to your local store to pick up a copy, or your favorite mail order. We’re running low on copies and waiting for our re-order to come in.

By The Numbers With Mike Mastroni

Brian | 03.1.15

Mike-Mastroni-Defgrip-Numbers-8001 Our very own, Mike Mastroni has up the latest/ greatest Defgrip By The Numbers feature.  He answered a solid 20 questions ranging from a  variety of different topics and came through with some new answers even we didn’t know about him.  Photo by Devin Feil
[What has been an “ahh-ha! ” moment in your life?
Within the last few years, I’d say just realizing that I don’t have to limit my own riding & creativity to the boundries of what BMX deems cool or acceptable. For all you kids reading this, neither do you. I distinctly remember something clicking in my brain and it was exactly like, “ahh-ha, I’m going to do whatever the fuck I want now!!”]

Jason Enns Spot Finder

Brian | 02.27.15

When I first saw Enns ride in an old Props at Section 8 skatepark, I was blown away.  He was doing insane shit on the spine mini there and giving the well known pros a run for their money.  Later down the road, his riding progressed and he took those tech ramp moves to the street, and found that building/ finding spots was half the battle to every good photo/ video part.  Every time we visited J in Vancouver, he had his “book” of spots that nobody else knew about, and probably nobody knows where they are to this day.  He later found that modifying a possible spot with a bit of Quickrete, or whatever else, would make the ideal spot too.   Today, he’s in SoCal and doing the same thing he’s always done, check his interview about it all.  Read now!  more

For anyone who’s already seen the video, you know Jason’s section is a standout to say the least. With a seemingly endless arsenal of unique spots combined with his creative & calculated approach to riding them, Jason is comparable to a fine wine…he only gets better with age. Here’s a wallride to pocket wallride on this crazy bridge setup in Arizona shot by Greg Moliterno which you can now set as your wallpaper. If you haven’t seen the video yet, you can pick one at your local Volume dealer, favorite mailorder, or RIGHT HERE in our webstore.

The Hardest Thing To Do With Mike Mastroni

Brian | 02.19.15

Mike-Mastroni-DIG-Finer-Things-Fives-DVD
DIG/ Devin Feil just put up an online feature with Mike Mastroni on everything you didn’t know about what went into our new DVD, The Finer Things.  He talks about the following; The best moments while filming, A few things you wouldn’t know, 5 personal favorite clips, Most stressful moments, Why full lengths still have a place, Why he’s happy that the video is done, and quick fire fives.  Don’t see too many bmx media companies these days putting this much work into a print style/ online interview, and just stoked it’s with Mike talking about the video.  Don’t miss reading this one!  Check out the full story here>>

Billy Perry 2015 Fire

Premiere Galleries

Volume The Finer Things Premiere
Huge thanks to everyone that came out last night to watch The Finer Things video at the Lido.  Definitely surreal to see if finished and on the big screen.  The guys have been busting their asses off for the last 2.5 years and glad to finally have their hard work all wrapped up and in a damn fine DVD that Mike Mastroni pieced together.  This photo above says it all.
The video and tees will be shipping out today and will also be available on our shop.  Jeff Z from RIDEbmx, and Kyle Carlson from VITAL bmx were also in a attendance at the premiere last night and somehow managed to get up these (RIDE’s / VITAL’s) rad galleries up in the middle of the night after partying hard with all the guys.

“Volume‘s first premiere for their new video The Finer Things went down tonight in Newport Beach, California at the Lido Live theater for a packed crowd of riders, included top pros, industry heads, and plenty of local riders. There has been a lot of publicity leading up to this video, and it’s been well deserved—The Finer Things delivers on all fronts with incredible riding from start to finish, top notch filming and editing, and not your typical, but well suited soundtrack. I already heard a few murmurs of “NORA Cup” and I’m sure it won’t be the last. Huge congrats to Volume, the whole team, and Mike Mastroni for putting together an incredible video. Whatever you do don’t slack on snagging yourself a copy—you’ll be glad you did!” —Z.
